Karnataka: Brother of arrested PSI scam accused dies by suicide
A 36-year-old man, who was reportedly the elder brother of a candidate arrested in the Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) recruitment scam, has allegedly died by suicide in the Holenarasipura town in the Hassan district.
The deceased was identified as Vasu G R. His brother Manu Kumar G R had got 144.875 marks and had secured the 50th rank in the PSI examination to make it to the provisional list. However, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Police found out that he had allegedly paid a hefty amount of money to secure the seat and thus, arrested Manu on Tuesday.
According to Holenarasipura town police, Vasu and his wife were living in the town for eight years but hailed from Gunje village. Vasu worked as a contractual group D employee and recently his contract had come to an end. He was hired during the Covid-19 and his contract ended two months ago. The local police said that he was addicted to alcohol and was sent to a deaddiction centre but he had quit that in the middle.
The CID had questioned Manu for 10 days ago and had raided their house in Gunje. Vasu was also aware of it and was depressed over it. On Tuesday, the CID took Manu in their custody.
On Tuesday evening, Vasu’s wife, who was out to buy groceries, came back and saw Vasu had hanged himself. The incident came to light only on Wednesday morning when the family informed the police.
