Gardaí are again reminding the public to be aware of online fraud after another phishing scam was reported in the local district.

In this case, an individual in Newport lost €3,000 after answering a text message purportedly sent from a bank. There has been a proliferation of similar incidents in the district over the last two years or so, and gardaí are appealing for people to familiarise themselves with tips for online fraud prevention.

Elsewhere, three people were arrested under the Public Order Act in Roscrea last weekend. All three were arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning.
